2020 Virtual Viva Poesia: Palabra, Musica, y Cultura “Mission San Jose: 300 Years” Mission Marquee Plaza, 3100 Roosevelt Ave. Saturday June 13, 2020 The City of San Antonio World Heritage Office presents a virtual version of the annual Viva Poesía: Palabra, Música, y Cultura, to be live-streamed directly from the historic Mission Marquee Plaza on Saturday, June 13, 2020. Originally scheduled to serve as the official City of San Antonio National Poetry Month kick-off event on April 4, 2020, Viva Poesía 2020 has responded to the pandemic by transforming itself into an online celebration of this year's theme: "Mission San Jose: 300 Years." All content still centers on the storied three-centuries-long history of the "Queen of the Missions," one of the most revered World Heritage Sites in the nation. Although the onsite performances will be closed to the general public in order to adhere to strict safety measures and proper social-distancing standards, the entire San Antonio community is invited to watch live by tuning in to the broadcast on the Mission Marquee Plaza Facebook page from 6-8 p.m. on any cell phone, computer, or smart device. This sixth-annual event will focus on the indigenous traditions rooted in the area for thousands of years and the resulting confluence of cultures that developed and remain vital to our beloved city. The live-stream of Viva Poesía 2020 will open with a prayer by Father Rogelio Martinez, Pastor at Mission San Jose and a special welcoming and reading by District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca J. Viagran, and who has championed this world-class project from the beginning, and will feature a vibrant offering of literary, visual, musical, and dramatic arts through spoken-word performances, live music, photography, graphic design, and dance from some of San Antonio's most celebrated creatives. VIVA POESÍA!!!
