Thank you for your inquiry about the Sacrament of Baptism at Mission San Jose. If you are not a registered parishioner of this parish or if you do not live within San Jose boundaries, we ask that you please obtain written permission from your parish or the Catholic Church that belongs to you by boundaries, to allow you to baptize your child/baby at Mission San Jose. Note: These guidelines are for children age 5 and younger only. For children ages 6 and over, please call the Parish Office regarding placement in our Religious Education Program.
Baptisms are held inside the Church on the second Saturday of the month at 12:00 noon inside the Church (starting Dec. 2015). Parents and Godparents are required to attend a baptism class. Classes are held on the Wednesday before the baptism date.
The following guidelines must be followed for baptism registration:
1. At least one PARENT, or legal guardian, must come to the parish office to register the baby/child. The sooner you provide the required documents, the sooner we can confirm the date of the baptism. (Incomplete paperwork does not reserve a baptism date.)
2. Parent/Guardian(s) must bring the child’s Birth Certificate from a Health Dept. or City Agency and, if applicable, a Letter of Permission from your Parish as indicated above.
a. must be a Catholic at least 17 years of age, who has been confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith. (Must provide proof of their baptism and confirmation).
b. If married, must be married through the Catholic Church and have copies of Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage certificates and not be bound by any church penalty.
b. You may have one Godparent that is male or one female, or one of each. (The Child’s Parent can not be the baby/child’s godparents).
4. The registration fee is $30 for parishioners and $50 for non-parishioners (cash or check).
5. Parents and godparents are required to attend a baptismal class at Mission San Jose. (If parents or godparents reside out of town, they may provide proof that they attended a baptism class at their parish.)
The Baptism Class will be held at 7:00 pm on the Wednesday before the second Saturday of the Month, unless the Priese or Deacon schedules it otherwise.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. ADDITIONALLY, BE ADVISED THAT WE WILL NOT SCHEDULE ANY BAPTISMS DURING THE SEASON OF LENT BETWEEN ASH WEDNESDAY AND GOOD FRIDAY.
